About Kaiyi

October 1994, I was born in a industrial city in Northern China. Both of my parents were full time engineers so I was basically raised by my grandparents on my mother’s side. At the age of three, I moved to another industrial city on the Southern edge of China. Short after that, my father decide to quite his job and work alone in a city called Kunming, which is one of the best city for people to live. Warm all year round, very few pollution. Before the family got reunion at 2003, my mom was the only one who take the responsibility of raising me.

When people ask about my hometown, I usually tell them it is Kunming. Although it is not the place that I were born, it is also not the place I spent the first part of my childhood, however, it is the place that influence me so much and to be honest, I would rather to be recognized as a person from Kunming instead of other places. Kunming is unique, it is far from other major city, it has almost nothing famous except the weather and tobacco.

Kaiyi and His Bad Habits.

Talks about tobacco, it is one of the most important thing in my life. It is tobacco that offers my father the opportunity to start his own business and drag my family from poverty. it is also tobacco that liberate my mind about business world. So I’m not ashamed to admit that I am a smoker. In fact, I am more than willing to devote myself into the tobacco industry.  The tobacco industry has not been regulate too much in China, as the result, we have the most mature tobacco market in this world. Thanks to the contribution from 350 million smokers, there are more than 160 brand with three thousand types of tobacco products in Chinese tobacco industry. A pack of cigarettes can cost as low as a dollar or as high as fifty dollar. I am so familiar with this industry, and tobacco has become a part of my life ever since I smoke the first cigarette when I was 14.

Another hobbit of mine is drinking. I drink on a daily base but barely get myself drunk. Although I love to have a glass of something at night, but I never like drink too much. Maybe is because I had too much party when I was in high school, I feel more and more uncomfortable to drink without consider responsible. I like to enjoy my life, more specifically, I like to enjoy the fine things and understand why they are so special. Normally I drink Scotch. Although single malt is high rated by most people, but I feel some nice blend Scotch are also nice. I also enjoy cognac, because it tastes more joyful. After all, I think smoking and drinking is the things that I enjoy the most.

Me, Eugene & U.S

So, this is the true image about myself. A 21 years old dude with a glass of Scotch on one hand, a burning cigarette on the other. But don’t get me wrong, my room is more organized than other dude at the same age. This society usually think people who drink and smoke are living in the chaos, but apparently, I’m not. I like travel to different places, I like dress with a style that make other people feel comfortable, I like having fun as much as I like working hard. I create this zone to share the person I am, and I hope you like it.

My Favorites

Dunhill Fine Cut

Dunhill Fine Cut is smooth. The tobacco is from Luzon Island and the process technique is the best duplicate of traditional Virginia toast. As one of the high end product from British American Tobacco, it is especially popular in most Asian countries because of the preference on taste. Personally, I smoke Chinese brand, but if I have to pick a cigarette from big tobaccos, I will choose Dunhill Fine Cut.

Johnnie Walker Double Black Label

Johnnie Walker Double Black is solid. It contains certain kind of strength that only people who appreciate Scotch can understand. As the world leading brand, Johnnie Walker certainly knows how to blend a impressive taste. It is decent but not rough. So far I have never get tired of drinking Double Black, and I assume I won’t switch this preference for a long time.

Macallan Fine Oak 10 Year

Macallan itself is the definition of timeless Scotch. I have not take Macallan with more than 12 years of aging because of the price. However, as the entry level of Macallan, Fine Oak 10 Year is a very unique taste of Single Malt. It is so refreshing that I have never feel so relax by tasting other same age Scotch. On the other hand, the body flavor keeps remind me that this is the standard of Single Malt.

Remy Martin VSOP

Remy Martin VSOP is something I cannot resist in whatever occasion. Unlike Scotch, Cognac has this strong fruit flavor that makes people find easier to start with. VSOP is not only an aging standard, to me, it is more like a guarantee for the joy. The overall taste of Remy Martin is lighter than its competitors such as Hennessy, however, I think that is why I prefer Remy Martin’s cognac over other brand.
